We left Hilton Head on Thursday, February 2 and arrived in Columbus for a long weekend with M's family on the evening of Friday, February 3. There were a lot of miles and adventures between Hilton Head and Columbus.

Sometime earlier in the trip, on a date unrecorded by me but I think around the 25th or 26th, M and Birdie had gone to Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge and wandered around. After going south toward Savannah on the 18th, in the last full week of January M and Birdie scouted some territory down toward Savannah while I was working.

My parents left on January 16 or 17th. My notes for the remainder of that week are relatively unclear. This probably means M and Birdie went and did things they had already done before, because my notes were pretty focused on "things I did" and "first time M did something without me." When we originally booked the Hilton Head house, the plan was for both sets of Birdie's grandparents to visit during the month we were there. For various reasons, M's parents decided not to visit, but my parents did come out for a chunk of time. When I originally summarized my states and got to South Carolina, I assumed that I would one day spend a weekend in Charleston to cross the state off the list. As it happens, we did spend a weekend in Charleston.

We left my sister's house in Atlanta after breakfast on Monday, January 2 and drove east toward Savannah before turning north into Hilton Head and my first ever visit to South Carolina.

We woke up in Oak Ridge, TN, on Wednesday, December 28, a short drive from my sister in Atlanta. Our original plan that day was to meet one of M's Peace Corps friends for lunch en route to Atlanta, but said friend had an unfortunately timed work emergency.
